Yes. Alicebots consist of an AIML set (the "brain" files of the bot) and an engine to interpret them. Just as a car will not run without fuel, an Alicebot will not function without an AIML set to interpret. Whichever ALICE application you use, this will be true. Whether or not your AIML is stored on a server depends upon whether you are using an online Alicebot or a desktop Alicebot. A desktop ALICE stores the AIML files on your local computer, within the ALICE software application.
